commemorates the day in 1901 when the Australian flag was flown for the first
time and celebrates the birth of our flag and its power as a symbol of unity,
independence and optimism.
1901 was the
year of Australian Federation, and the design of the Australian flag was picked
from more than 32,800 entries.
